PickleCon 2024!

Kansas City is gearing up for a grand pickleball celebration in August 2024, aptly named 'PickleCon'. A collaboration between Visit KC and Triple Crown Sports, this event is expected to be a game-changer, with over 100 courts set up for tournaments, camps, clinics, and more. The city's enthusiasm for pickleball is evident, and with an estimated boost of $3.9 million to the local economy, it's clear that this sport is more than just a game.

Kathy Nelson, the CEO of Visit KC, expressed her excitement, emphasizing the city's passion for pickleball. Alyssa Morrison, the director of Picklecon, highlighted the event's diverse offerings, from pro interactions and panel discussions to community activities, ensuring there's something for everyone.

Triple Crown Sports, based in Colorado, has been organizing sports events since 1982. Their research into pickleball began in 2018, collaborating with top brands and players to understand the sport's nuances. Their aim? To offer a unique experience that fills the gaps in current offerings.

The economic impact of such events is undeniable. Earlier, the volleyball preseason national invitation tournament attracted over 20,000 attendees, generating an impressive $13.1 million for Kansas City.

Kimiko Gilmore, deputy city manager, emphasized the city's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that Picklecon will be an event where everyone feels welcome.

But what's behind pickleball's skyrocketing popularity? Kelli Alldredge, president of Chicken N Pickle, believes it's the human connection. The sport encourages people to interact, laugh, and bond, transcending generations. With Chicken N Pickle set to expand to 15 locations by 2025, it's evident that the pickleball wave is here to stay.
