Pickleball Invades the Capital: National Mall to Host Three Days of Pickleball Fun!

Pickleball enthusiasts, mark your calendars for a three-day pickleball extravaganza at the National Mall from September 28 to September 30. The Trust for the National Mall, in collaboration with healthcare company Humana, is setting up nine pickleball courts at the JFK Hockey Fields for free gameplay and clinics. Starting September 14, at 12 PM, players can reserve a spot to enjoy the sport that has rapidly grown to become a favorite in the nation. The event promises not only games but also clinics guided by pros from the DC Pickleball Team, catering to beginners as well as advanced players.

The event is structured to offer something for everyone, including walk-on courts for those who couldn't reserve a spot in time. All necessary equipment, including paddles and balls, will be provided to the players. But it's not just about playing; spectators have a lot to look forward to as well. Comedian Rob Riggle will host a celebrity contest featuring notable personalities such as Wizards player Corey Kispert and journalist Katie Couric, who will team up with local senior athletes for a game. Moreover, a showdown between DC newsrooms, including representatives from the Washington Post and NPR, is on the agenda, promising a spirited competition.

Whether you are a player eager to hone your skills with lessons from the pros or a spectator ready to enjoy a series of exciting games, the National Mall is the place to be at the end of September. The event promises a vibrant atmosphere with a series of games that include celebrity contests and a yet unconfirmed appearance by the Washingtonian on the court. It's a golden opportunity to immerse yourself in the pickleball community, learn from the best, and enjoy a sport that has captured the hearts of millions across the nation.
