J.D. Martinez Joins JOOLA, Eyes Pro Pickleball Career Post-MLB
Six-time MLB All-Star J.D. Martinez is already mapping out his post-baseball career—and it involves pickleball. The 14-year veteran has signed a deal with JOOLA to transition into professional pickleball after retirement, receiving coaching, equipment, and sponsorship for events like the PPA Challenger Series.
Martinez, 37, began playing pickleball as an offseason hobby and will now train under JOOLA pro Eric White to sharpen his game. The partnership also includes hosting his own tournaments, further solidifying his involvement in the sport. Despite his future pickleball aspirations, Martinez remains a free agent and plans to play MLB in 2025.
With another high-profile athlete entering the pickleball scene, Martinez’s move could signal a growing trend of elite pros from other sports making the switch. Could he become pickleball’s next breakout star?
