Mega Facility Series: Huntsville’s Grand Pickleball Recreation Center
Kicking off our “Mega Facility Series,” Huntsville, Alabama, is setting the bar high with a new recreation center featuring 25 covered pickleball courts at John Hunt Park. This ambitious addition, part of a decade-long development plan, includes an expansive 60,580-square-foot space with gyms, volleyball courts, fitness areas, and multipurpose rooms, making it the largest pickleball investment in city history. As pickleball demand surges, Huntsville’s commitment to infrastructure supports both community recreation and regional event hosting.
Located on 8.5 acres, this $18.5 million facility is designed to meet growing recreational needs while transforming Huntsville into a competitive sports destination. Scheduled for completion in December 2025, it joins other recent city projects like a skating rink and tennis center, underscoring Huntsville’s dedication to creating premium public sports spaces. With 298 parking spaces and easy access, this new facility aims to be a year-round attraction, open rain or shine, providing a premier venue for players and fans alike.
John Hunt Park has evolved from a former airport site into a recreational hub, supported by extensive city investments that also revamped nearby Joe Davis Stadium. With plans to host national events alongside daily recreational use, the new pickleball courts will be a prime location for tournaments, community gatherings, and local enthusiasts.
